in-chat ecommerce is the ‘next big thing’

Certainly, mobile commerce has been gaining ground quickly on traditional ecommerce. But now messaging and chat are looking to accelerate that trajectory even more. It’s all about ease, integration, and speed. Brands that enable consumers to make purchases inside messaging apps — such as Facebook Messenger — are making mobile purchases easier and faster than ever.

UX is Good Business

Today, web designers are more like engineers than artists. There’s no doubt that’s because web pages are no longer seen as simply online advertisements for your business. They are still that. But websites have become indisputable, non-negotiable business tools – not just engines of commerce but the engines of commerce for literally millions of businesses.

How, where and why people interact with websites is the essence of business survival.
UX matters regardless if you're Amazon.com or you’re about to launch your first website selling cupcakes. Your viewers, readers and customers can feel bad UX design, even if they don't know exactly why they feel the way they do. That means it’s not a tech issue, it’s a public, customer issue.

4 Common Obstacles Preventing E-Commerce Conversions

Sometimes a simple problem with your website will create an obstacle and kill your conversion rate. Here are four common obstacles that could be responsible for preventing your website from converting and generating revenue.
1. You don’t offer any visible special offers.

More of your website visitors will convert if they feel like they are receiving a special offer, such as an instant discount or free shipping. Many websites offer these, but they don’t make them visible. You need to make sure you place there directly where every single visitor will come in contact with them.

2. You don’t offer a pleasant mobile experience.

Google AdWords to Eliminate ‘Converted Clicks’

A Google AdWords metric that has been around for the past 15 years is being retired on September 21st, with the company saying ‘Converted clicks’ is now an “outdated metric”. Data included in the ‘Conversions’ column will now become the default way to measure actions taken on your website following an ad click.

The difference between the two metrics is that ‘Converted clicks’ measured any action taken on your site after an ad click, even if it wasn’t the action you intended. ‘Conversions’ measures the number of times an ad click led to a visitor completing the desired action, such as making a purchase or requesting a quote. The ‘Conversions’ column presents a more precise picture of how effective your ads are at driving business.

Currently, both metrics are being measured in AdWords, but according to Google most advertisers are already using the ‘Conversions’ column as their primary source of data for bidding and reporting.

Optimizing for Local Search on Mobile

Most mobile local searches come with an immediate search intent. People are searching on their mobile phone because they want something now!

To optimize for local search on mobile, you need to focus on that immediacy. Give mobile searchers the simple, easy, readily accessible answers they are looking for and you’ll win their business.

People search differently on mobile than they do on desktop. Not only are they looking for something they can immediately act on, but they also avoid lengthy searches.
If you want to show up for mobile searches, you typically want to optimize for shorter keywords or phrases and design your site to provide an optimal mobile experience.

Once you know which keywords and phrases you want to rank for, you’ll want to identify which pages you want to rank for those keywords. At a minimum, those pages should have at least 300-500 words of text relating to the keyword.

Verzion buys Yahoo for $4.83 billion

Verizon is officially acquiring Yahoo’s core business for $4.83 billion in cash, which includes Yahoo’s advertising, content, search and mobile activities.
Yahoo will be integrated with AOL, and Verizon EVP and President of the Product Innovation and New Businesses organization Marni Walden is going to lead the process. AOL CEO Tim Armstrong also mentions Marissa Mayer in his memo though. “For me personally, I’m planning to stay. I love Yahoo, and I believe in all of you. It’s important to me to see Yahoo into its next chapter,” Mayer wrote in an internal Yahoo memo. The transaction is expected to close in Q1 2017.

Last year, Verizon acquired AOL for $4.4 billion to boost its media and advertising businesses. Verizon remains a giant telecom company, but the acquisitions of AOL and now Yahoo show that the company wants to diversify its revenue and operations.

Chatbots as the factotum for all business needs

The first thing to understand about chatbots is that most won’t introduce new capabilities; instead, brand chatbots will centralize where and how customers engage, using social media as an operating system.

Consumers will engage with bots in three ways: content consumption, customer service and productivity or transactional engagements. Social media is already part of many of these activities between brands and consumers, but social media acts as a gateway to direct consumers to the brand website, blog or separate channels. Instead of using social media as a portal, consumers can read and receive information, ask technical questions and even make purchases from one chatbot.
