Server issues

Unfortunately, we're having trouble with our web server and that means some of your websites may be down. We are troubleshooting the problem now and should have it resolved pretty soon. We will make arrangements for a new hosting solution immediately. Please stand by. Thanks!

BOOOOM!

Our beloved buddies at the Googleplex dropped a bomb on the Web world last week as one of Google's head honchos, John Mueller, said they probably won't be updating PR publicly anymore.

Excuse me?

LWebG Helping American Council for the Blind

One of our newest clients is the American Council for the Blind and I'm pleased to report that we're getting rave reviews for our work!

According to Carla Ruschival, the ACB's treasurer, "I want you to know how empowering it is to be able to handle things like uploading and tagging photos, creating categories and subcategories, and managing products. I am sure there are many other areas where I will have questions, but we are so close to being complete that I can smell it - smile. Even if we don't have all categories ready to go, I want to be able to announce that the Mini Mall is open for business on October 1."

Working with the ACB is an absolute delight and we appreciate being able to help. Yes, it is a challenge because the website has to be a great tool for the blind community as well as the sighted community, but our lead developer Chris Rockwell is doing a great job!

Updated mobile information from Google

Mobile-friendly sites turn users into customers, according to Google.

The fastest path to mobile customers is through a mobile-friendly site. If your site offers a great mobile experience, users are more likely to make a purchase.

Mission critical: Web Search

After working in SEO and Web Marketing for the past 15 years, there is no question that your website's position with major search engines is the single most critical element of the website design and development process.

If you are a "war baby" like I am, you might remember the poster that read "What if they had a war and nobody came?". Pretty heavy thought there. But it certainly applies when it comes to your online footprint, to wit, "what if you built a new website and nobody saw it?"

According to the online publication CMS Wire, "As websites have evolved, what has become increasingly clear is that building a high-performance one is both an art and a science, requiring skills across a variety of design, content, user experience, and analytics disciplines..."

So the premise is that the best way to really make an online impact is to consider:

Ecommerce Roundup - July 2nd

The stuff you should consume from last week:

New article posted that will help you hire the right web company

Our CEO, Gary Rawlings, has posted the first section of his upcoming book at http://www.louisvillewebgroup.com/how-ensure-successful-web-design-project.
If you're considering a web project and you don't have a lot of experience, this article is a must-read!

Have you noticed a decline in your search positioning?

If you did, don't worry. You aren't the only one.

In case you weren't aware, Google oozed out its latest search algorithm update, otherwise known by some observers as the "search update that could destroy your business," popularly known as Panda 4.0.

How can such a cute fuzzy animal be such a unmitigated ass? is the question of the day. But before you decide to take the plunge off one of the Ohio River bridges, try the Zen thing. An ice cold beer is good, and a shot of Maker's Mark over ice might even be better. There's no need to panic. But I know you will anyway because that's what people like us do:-)

"Panda 4.0 affects different languages to different degrees," Google spokesperson Jason Freidenfelds told CMSWire in a recent interview. "In English, for example, the impact is 7.5 percent of queries that are affected to a degree that a regular user might notice."

Reason #724 Why You Should Use Drupal Commerce for Your Store

A Recall? Buwhaa?!

What if one of your products has a recall? You need to find each of your customers who ordered that product and send them a notice. What if you have hundreds of thousands of orders?

This was exactly the situation one of our clients found themselves in recently. It was their first ever recall, and so nothing was built into the system to handle the situation. There are only a few options:

DrupalCon Austin 2014 Round-Up

This was my fifth DrupalCon, and they're always worth it. Its good to get an up-close reminder of all the talented people working on Drupal, and to broaden your scope beyond your own little world. All the sessions are up at the DrupalCon Austin website, and it is worth your time to watch some of them. Some of my recommendations are below (with headings linked their respective videos):
