US Consumers are 4th Biggest Online Spenders on Average

Entrepreneur just published a very revealing infographic that shows what countries in the world spend the most on average shopping online. It turns out, the highest spenders are the consumers of Hong Kong, who average $2,868 a year. The United States comes in at 4th place with $1,757, although they are the highest spenders in North America. Hong Kong's high ranking in this list is no surprise, after Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba just broke it's record for most sales in a day, by making 14.3 billion dollars in sales on the holiday "Single's Day" For the full list of rankings for countries that spend the most online, check out the full article at Entrepreneur.

PayPal Making Important Changes

PayPal is upgrading the certificate for www.paypal.com to SHA-256. This endpoint is also used by merchants using the Instant Payment Notification (IPN) product.

This upgrade is scheduled for 9/30/2015; however, we may need to change this date on short notice to you to align to the industry security standard. If you have used IPN endpoints within the past year and you have not made the necessary changes, we urge you to do so right away to avoid a disruption of your service!

Because these changes are technical in nature, we advise that you consult with your individuals responsible for your PayPal integration. They will be able to identify what, if any, changes are needed. Please share this email and the hyperlinks below with your technical contact for evaluation.

Google Sets Sights on Drone Technology

Alphabet Inc, the holding company for Google plans on being able to deliver packages to customers by drones in 2017. According to an article written by Reuters: "David Vos, the leader for Alphabet's Project Wing, said his company is in talks with the Federal Aviation Administration and other stakeholders about setting up an air traffic control system for drones that would use cellular and Internet technology to coordinate unmanned aerial vehicle flights at altitudes under 500 feet (152 meters)." It is no surprise that Alphabet wants to get in the drone industry, as other companies like Amazon are also vying to get a spot in this potentially lucrative industry. However one of the boundaries to them currently is the Federal Aviation Administration, who needs to publish final rules for commercial drone operations. Luckily those rules are expected to be set in stone early next year.

Bravo! Louisville Web Group was the first web company in Kentuckiana to recognize the power and flexibility of Drupal CMS and has dedicated itself solely to Drupal development for client websites since 2011.

Mobilegeddon is officially starting in April

Google next big update is going to target non-mobile friendly sites and is expected to roll out April 21, 2015, and roll out for a few days to a week.

This is a big one, and could affect a large portion of your web traffic.

In the last few years, mobile traffic has increased dramatically. It’s speculated that more than 50% of Google searches are performed on mobile. Even Google is saying this update is going to have a bigger effect on search rankings than Panda or Penguin, the biggest updates Google has ever launched, as quoted by a member of Google’s Webmaster Trends team, Zineb Ait Bahajji at SMX Munich.

The problem is many sites are not responsive, meaning that they were only built for desktop computers and are hard to navigate on mobile devices. Google doesn’t want to serve up results that don’t are not user friendly, so they are implementing a new algorithm change to demote sites that aren’t usable on phones and tablets.
