Verizon might be getting Cold feet about Yahoo Deal

Verizon last week indicated that its US$4.8 billion acquisition of Yahoo could be in jeopardy in light of the company's delay in disclosing a massive 2014 data breach that compromised about 500 million account holders.

Verizon may need some additional assurances about the effects of the breach, suggested General Counsel Craig Silliman at an event in Washington, D.C.

"I think we have a reasonable basis to believe right now that the impact is material, and we're looking to Yahoo to demonstrate to us the full impact," he said. "If they believe that it's not, then they'll need to show us that."

Those comments followed an earlier New York Post report that Verizon had demanded a $1 billion discount on the acquisition price after Yahoo disclosed the extent of the data breach, which was kept under wraps for months after its discovery.

How to sell things online

#1 Know your customers
Everything starts from here. If you don’t know your customers, it’s like you’re trying to sell your products to your imaginary friend. The purchase might be successful, but it doesn’t mean you’ll get real money from it.

#2 Write a killer copy
Easier said than done, I know. However, it’s not that difficult to make a copy. All you have to remember about is to speak about benefits, not about a product. You need to create your unique value proposition.

#3 High-quality visuals
People buy with their eyes. Even if you have two products and they’re the same, people will rather buy the one in a lovely package. The same rule applies to product pictures. People would rather buy a pair of trousers that have a good picture or looks nice on a model.

Chatbots can help your business!

Chatbot is a program simulating a real conversation that you interact with via a chat interface. The application of bots can be really wide, varying from functional to fun, and it can be implemented in any major chat product like Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Slack, text messages, etc.

Immediate customer support
Waiting for the support is the worst nightmare for any customer. Chatbots can mitigate customer service agents, by helping with basic, repeatable customers’ queries that often appear in the FAQ section. A customer service rep can step in later to handle more complex tasks when needed.

Samsung Down, Galaxy Note7 Out

Shares of Samsung Electronics fell sharply on Tuesday after the company confirmed reports that it had halted production of its flagship Galaxy Note7 smartphone, just launched this summer.

The move came after several replacement phones reportedly smoldered or caught fire.

Shares fell 8 percent in the Korean market.

Samsung had been working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on a voluntary recall and replacement program, spurred by reports that dozens of the new devices had burst into flames due to faulty lithium-ion batteries.

The Samsung brand, which has enjoyed a longstanding reputation for quality, likely will take a beating, as the recall and subsequent halt of sales expose something seriously amiss in the production and quality control process at the company.

"This is a disaster that keeps on growing for Samsung and their brand," observed wireless analyst Jeff Kagan.

Loyal Ecommerce Customers

In the world of retail, ecommerce or not, the focus will always be on two main metrics – customer acquisition and customer retention. Customer acquisition is a fancy term for attracting new customers while customer retention is a fancy term for ensuring a customer returns and makes another purchase (or a few).
Among people who pay attention to retail-related data, it is a well-known fact that attracting a new customer costs five times more than retaining one. And despite this being such a widely-accepted piece of information, most retail companies, both brick and mortar ones and ecommerce ones, still put the majority of their money and attention into attracting new customers instead of keeping the existing ones loyal.

In the case of ecommerce companies, maybe this makes sense? Maybe ecommerce people know something the rest of us don’t? Maybe they know that there is no such thing as ecommerce customer loyalty?

Tips for creating a Memorable Design

A memorable design is a tool that will help create this user connection.

1. Make an Impression
Users will remember the first thing they do on your website, as well as the last thing they do. It’s important that the memory is a good one.
Strong visuals on the landing page and a seamless finish to an action are key.

2. Tell a Story
A website is your gateway to the world. It’s an opportunity to tell people who you are and why you matter. Whether the story is that of a brand or a travel blog, effective storytelling is the thread that keeps users hanging on.
Telling that story is a two-part process:
Strong text to tell
Interesting visuals to show
You’ll need both elements to put together a complete package.

At an investor event Thursday, Walmart executives laid out a plan to pour billions more dollars into online expansion, while cutting down new store openings.

"This company over time is going to look more like an e-commerce company," CEO Doug McMillon told the crowd.
